Welcome! We are so grateful for your interest in volunteering with us. This FAQ is designed to help you get started, understand expectations, and navigate the GetConnected Volunteer Portal with ease. If you don’t see your question answered here, our team is always happy to help.
General Volunteer Questions
Q: Who can volunteer?
A: Volunteer eligibility varies by role. Each opportunity listing will clearly note requirements.
- Most opportunities are open to adults 18 and older. Some roles may allow minors with a parent/guardian present, while others may allow teens 16+.
- Some roles require a background check. If needed, you will receive instructions through the portal and via email.
- We do not accept volunteers who are fulfilling court-ordered community service hours.
Q: The Meals that Heal opportunity says 8:00am? Do I have to make breakfast?
A: No, you can come anytime during the day and make breakfast, lunch, or dinner for our families.
Q: Is there a minimum commitment?
A: Some roles are one-time, while others prefer a recurring commitment. Please review the opportunity description for specific expectations.
Q: Are group or corporate volunteer opportunities available?
A: Yes! We welcome groups to participate in our Meal Program and for special projects throughout the year. If you're organizing a group, review the Team Leader Guide to assist with managing your team!
Q: Is training required?
A: Some volunteer roles require orientation before or during your first shift.
Q: Are there specific meal program guidelines?
A: Yes! Please refer to the opportunity description and our Meals that Heal Guidelines when considering or preparing for this opportunity.
Using the Volunteer Portal
Q: How do I create an account?
A: From this page, click the "Sign Up" in the top right corner. For help creating and/or managing your volunteer account, review the Global Profile Guide.
Q: How do I find and sign up for volunteer opportunities?
A: After logging in, click on "Opportunities" from the left navigation bar to browse available roles. You can filter by date, skill, team-friendly, etc. Click "View Details" for the opportunity you're interested in and select "Respond."
Q: How will I know if I'm confirmed for a shift?
A: You will receive an email confirmation and can also view your scheduled shifts in your dashboard.
Q: How do I cancel or reschedule?
A: Log into the portal, go to “My Schedule,” select the shift, and follow the cancellation instructions. Please cancel as early as possible so the shift can be reassigned.
Q: I forgot my password. What should I do?
A: Click “Forgot Password” on the login page and follow the prompts to reset it.
Day-Of Volunteering
Q: How do I check-in and track hours?
A: Upon arrival, stop by the front desk to check-in on the portal or with a staff member. You will automatically be checked out at the end of your scheduled shift. If you forgot to check-in or need to make an edit to your hours, please contact us.
Q: Where do I park?
A: On-site parking is available for volunteers, with overflow parking in the Vandalia Health CAMC Women & Children's employee lot, directly in front of our building.
Q: What do I wear?
A: Volunteers should generally wear comfortable, modest, and practical clothing, with a strong emphasis on closed-toe shoes for safety.
Q: Can I bring a guest?
A: For safety and privacy reasons, personal guests are not permitted unless stated in the opportunity description.
